 Becker County
Becker County

Becker County encompasses 1,440 square miles, divided into 37 townships. The county stretches 30 miles north and south, and 48 miles east and west. The county contains over 400 lakes and 11 communities, including Detroit Lakes - the county seat. The Natural Resource Management Office manages 74,754 acres of state tax-forfeited land. These acres lie in the transition zone between forest and prairie. The western one-half of the county is predominantly agricultural with the US Fish & Wildlife Service re-establishing portions of the original tall-grass prairie. The eastern one-half of the county is heavily forested with oak, basswood, birch, aspen, and pines. Deposits of several glaciers dominate the landscape. These deposits range from 300 to 600 feet thick and are among the thickest in Minnesota. The repeated glacial activity gives the county the rolling hills, the outwash plains, and numerous wetlands and lakes the area is well known for.
